Myth 1: Free housing means terrible conditions

Reality: Today, Polish factories are experiencing a colossal shortage of qualified personnel. Serious employers understand: if a welder cannot rest normally after 10-12 hours of hard work on the production line, he will simply leave for a competitor.

Standard accommodation for professionals now consists of rented apartments, private houses (worker hostels), or special modular housing estates near the factory.

What is considered the norm (The Standard):

Number of people: 2, maximum 3-4 people in a room (never 8!).

Amenities: Washing machine, several refrigerators, a full stove, microwave. A bathroom is usually shared by a maximum of 4-5 people.

Internet: Free Wi-Fi is available almost everywhere.

Distance to work: Ideally, within walking distance (15-30 minutes). If the accommodation is far away, the employer should organize free transport by minibus.

Myth 2: The housing is completely free, I won't pay a penny

Reality: Here lies the main nuance that agencies often keep quiet about. Even if the housing is advertised as "free", most often you will have to pay for utilities (in Poland, they call this "media").

Usually, a fixed amount is deducted from your salary—from 250 to 450 PLN per month for water, gas, electricity, and garbage collection. Some (though very rare) factories cover even these costs, but then the basic hourly rate might be slightly lower.
