Tax Refund (PIT-11) in Poland: How Can a Welder Get Extra Money?

Legal work in Poland has one huge, but often underestimated advantage. Besides a stable salary and free healthcare, you are entitled to a refund of overpaid income tax (Zwrot podatku) at the beginning of each year. For many workers, this amount becomes a nice bonus ranging from a few hundred to a few thousand Złotys!

But how can a foreigner navigate the Polish tax system? The experts at Zvaryuvalnyk.xyz have prepared a simple guide.

What is PIT-11 and when should you expect it?

PIT-11 is an official document from your employer. It shows how much you earned last year and how much tax (PIT and ZUS) was paid into the state treasury.

Under Polish law, the employer is obliged to send you this document (by mail to your residential address or by e-mail) by the end of February. If you worked "off the books" (illegally) — you will not receive a PIT-11, and therefore, you will not see any money from the state.

How to get your money? (Filing PIT-37)

After receiving the PIT-11 from the factory, you must submit an annual tax return (usually PIT-37) to the Tax Office (Urząd Skarbowy). This must be done by the end of April.

Nowadays, it is as simple as possible:

You don't have to stand in lines! Just go to the government portal Podatki.gov.pl and use the Twój e-PIT service.

You can log into the system using a Trusted Profile (Profil Zaufany) or through your Polish internet banking.

The tax office has already filled out your declaration based on the data from your employer. All you have to do is check it, add tax reliefs (if any), and click "Send".

The money will arrive in your bank account within 45 days!

How can you get even more money? (Tax reliefs)

Ulga na dziecko (Child Relief): The most popular tax relief. If you have minor children, you can get an additional refund of over 1100 PLN per child per year.

Kwota wolna od podatku (Tax-free allowance): Poland has a high income threshold that is not taxed (currently 30,000 PLN per year). If you worked part of the year and earned less than this amount, you can get almost all of the tax you paid refunded!
